How to make your Blog or Web Site load fast

Have you ever wondered why many people do not bother staying on your page? This is why: No body has got the time to wait for a website or blog site to load when time should be used in doing something useful like searching or reading the contents of the web page or blog.

A fast loading blog or web page attracts more readers as the find it easier to access needed info efficiently. Hence to avoid loosing valuable audience to your blog or web page you may find applying these rules important:

Moderate number of posts:
The number of posts on your page determines how fast or slow the blog page loads. Hence reducing the number to say 3 to 5 may be perfect. Google recommends 10 or fewer. I set mine to 1 post per page as you can see. Editing the number of posts displayed of the main page is quite easy to do. From the Settings | Formatting tab you can then select the number of posts you want to display on the main page in your blog (blogger). You will find it similar to the image below

Links and Java Scripts:
Because google wants the best experience for bloggers, the organisations' developers came up with the idea of incorporating widgets to blogger. But, with the increase in cool apps and other widgets, many blog or web site masters desire to add some more interactivity to spice up their audience experience.

Google/Blogger widgets, JavaScript and links if you want to maintain the already optimized loading speed of blogger blogs. However, if you want to add widgets like social network share buttons, Face Book comment or face pile, YouTube video player etc. and other scripts or links, you can place them at the bottom of your side bar so your visitors would not have to wait for them to load at the expense of your contents of value. After all, it is what you have to offer and not some externalities readers want to see.

Images, Games and Videos:
Images add to the beauty of blogs and web pages. However they, too, add to slowing down loading time, alongside embedded videos (flash videos on web pages) and games. The more images, videos and other multi-media you have on your blog the longer it will take to load. However, if you must use images and videos etc on your blog or web site, make sure to do the following:
  1. Reduce the sizes of your images or better still link the larger images using thumbnails. You can optimize images for web using such editors as Adobe Fireworks, one of my favourites.
  2. Upload third party images for use on your pages to Picasa Web Albums using the blogger post editor.
  3. Use the second option above to share even more images on your page or the side bar of your blog.
I hope the above tips is useful to you. Happy bloging, and do not forget to share with family and friends, and also to subscribe to future posts.

Cheers!
