How to control that odour: personal hygiene; a must for men

Hello! Today we shall be talking men’s health. In line with the aim of this blog – which is to keep you informed on wide ranging issues – as the very first write up on health issue, you will learn just how to feel and smell fresh. This post is aimed at the men folk. Have you ever walked past someone and almost got yourself knocked down unconscious by the foul smell oozing out of his cloth? Terrible experience, right? In this post, we will look at a different aspect of body odour with respect to men. Ladies, hang on tight because you will find this interesting as what you will learn here will put a lasting smile on the face of you and your man or any other special person in your life.

It’s normal for man to produce body odour after long period of exposure to some measure of heat or hot weather if you will. However, it can be controlled or reduced as it where. Aside the armpit, one place that bothers men is the area in between the legs. I bet the guys know what I am talking about by now. Sometimes when we free ourselves of our boxers, we discover that is oozes not to comfortable smell; even when we do examine the ritual of taking at least two baths a day. Those, who are well off, resort to expensive perfume et al just to keep that region smelling good. What about the rest who can’t afford a perfume of say N5000 (about $34 dollars)? Not to worry, I got a recommendation for you my friend.

Why that smell in the first place?! Aaaaargh!!!
As I said previously, body odour is the product of a natural phenomenon. Its severity is determined by hygiene level as it were since we cannot eliminate it – for as long as we experience heat.  We can only control it. Body odour is caused by sweating – though sweating on its own is not the culprit. In most mammals (which group we belong), water is given off via the skin as sweat, a form of cooling in which liquid actively secreted from sweat glands evaporates from the body surface. Sweat is largely water (usually about 99 percent), with small amounts of dissolved salts and amino acids[1]. When our body temperature rises, the sympathetic nervous system stimulates glands called eccrine sweat glands to secrete water to the skin surface, where it cools the body by evaporation, nature’s superb cooling system isn’t it?
Having seen the place of sweating in balancing our body temperature, we come now to the culprit responsible for odour. Though we have seen that glands below the skin are responsible for realeasing swaet, however it is important to note that two distinctive types exist – the eccrine  and apocrine glands respectively. While the eccrine gland duct opens at the skin surface, the apocrine glands develop in association with our hair follicles. However, in a strict sense the latter contributes little to sweating as it has been associated with human body odour and odour in animals that rely on it for attracting mates. While the eccrine glands secrete sweat, the apocrine glands secrete a concentrated fatty sweat into the gland tube which when acted by bacteria are broken down into unsaturated fat giving off that sometimes foul smell. Now you know its natural.

My control tip

Now don’t go hitting your head on a brick because you can’t seem to find a solution too that smell at the genital region. My tip today, if you cannot afford a good perfume, is to use Gillets stick deodorant. I discovered it protects me for a long time and when you observe the daily dose of bath, you won’t even notice anything as a genital region odour. Once you are done with the shower, apply gillet deodorant in the area in-between the scrotum and anus; you are good to go. Try it out and come back to relay your experience.
